Red Lake, Ontario – The Red Lake Miners are pleased to announce the signing of forward Quinn Szpak for the upcoming season. Born in 2005, Szpak is coming off an impressive season with the St. Paul Canadiens of the NEABJHL, where he showcased his exceptional talent on the ice.
In the 2023-24 season, Szpak led the league in scoring with a remarkable 37 goals, 41 assists, and a total of 78 points in just 30 games. His outstanding performance continued in the playoffs, where he contributed an additional 7 goals and 5 assists, accumulating 12 points in 7 playoff games. Szpak’s efforts played a pivotal role in leading the Canadiens to victory in the Central Canada Cup.
Before joining the Canadiens, Szpak spent two seasons with the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers in the AEHL U18 division, amassing 63 points in 76 games. He also had the opportunity to play alongside current Miners players Landon van Engelen and Bradyn Rowsell during his time with the Rangers. Additionally, Szpak made an impact with the Fort McMurray Oil Barons, participating in 5 regular-season and 7 playoff games during the 2022-23 season.
Quinn Szpak expressed his enthusiasm about joining the Miners, stating, “My short-term goals are to be an asset to the team both offensively and defensively, while my long-term goals are to pursue a career in pharmacy. I am excited to become part of a team that has great expectations for this year. I am a team player who sees the ice well, produces offensively, and does whatever it takes to win.”
Head Coach and General Manager Lee Stone shared his excitement about the signing, saying, “Quinn first came on our radar after a discussion with St. Paul Canadiens GM Dean Smyl last season. He spoke highly of Quinn’s ability on the ice and his character off it. St. Paul runs a good program, and after seeing Quinn play, we knew we wanted him in a Miners jersey. His IQ on the ice is second to none. He’s a player that can create offense at even strength and on the power play. His two-way game is very strong, and we believe he will be a key offensive contributor from day one.”
The Red Lake Miners are looking forward to welcoming Quinn Szpak to the team and are excited about the contributions he will make this season.
