Miners Acquire Menard from Swan Valley

Red Lake, Ontario – The Red Lake Miners are pleased to announce the acquisition of defenseman Sullivan Menard from the Swan Valley Stampeders of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL). Menard, born in 2006 and native of Coquitlam, BC, is set to join the Miners for this upcoming weekend.

During the 2023-2024 season with the Stampeders, Menard played in 38 games, recording 2 assists. Prior to his time in Swan Valley, Menard played for the Northeast Chiefs of the British Columbia Elite Hockey League (BCEHL), where he tallied 4 goals and 15 assists for a total of 19 points in 34 games.

Menard expressed his enthusiasm about joining the Miners, stating, “my short term goal is to win a championship with the Red Lake Miners and my long term goal is to get a degree in environmental science.

Upon joining the Miners, Menard continued, “I’m excited about the new town and new teammates. I’ve heard nothing but good things about the Miners as a program and am excited to be on a winning team.” He further described his style of play: “I like to think of myself as a simpler, two-way version of Adam Fox. Fans can expect a smooth skating, puck-moving defenseman.”

Head Coach and General Manager Lee Stone also shared his excitement about the new addition. “Sully is a player I have had my eye on for the last couple of seasons. When the opportunity to acquire him came up this season, we didn’t think twice. He will bring a calm, composed game to our back end. He’s strong on the defensive side, and with a year of experience in the MJ under his belt, we feel his game will translate very well. We are very excited to welcome Sully to the family!”
