Red Lake, Ontario – The Red Lake Miners are pleased to announce the acquisition of forward Kyle Grysiuk  from the Winnipeg Freeze in a trade that involves Ty Genik and future considerations going to Winnipeg. Grysiuk, who has played 94 MJHL games with the Freeze and Portage Terriers over the past three seasons.

During his time in the MJHL, Grysiuk collected 8 goals and 14 assists for a total of 22 points. This season, Grysiuk took another step offensively scoring 3 goals and 6 assists for 9 points in 20 games. The Miners believe Grysiuk will be an offensive contributor as they make a playoff push in the second half of the year.

Grysiuk‘s short terms goals with the Miners are simple, “I want to have fun and be an impact on a team where we can win the championship and attend the Centennial Cup.” While his eyes are on a Championship, Grysiuk did say, “my long term goal is to continue playing hockey at a higher level and attend College or University.”

Grysiuk known for his ability to see the ice and find his teammates believes he is “a strong forward who good play making ability and sees the ice well.”

Head Coach and General Manager Lee Stone acknowledged trades at this time of the year can be difficult, “In Hockey, sometimes you have to move a player to get a player. Losing Ty Genik is tough for our room; he was a great representative of what we want to be as a program, both on and off the ice. We are happy Ty will get to take the next step in his development with the Freeze in his hometown.” Stone said.

When asked about Grysiuk, Stone was very complimentary, “Kyle is a player that first came to our attention before Christmas and the more we watched the more we excited we got at the idea of adding his talent to our program.” Grysiuk’s 94 career Junior A games immediately makes him the Miners most experienced player and Stone recognized the importance of adding that. “Having a player with Kyle’s skill set and experience at the Junior A level was something we felt we needed to accomplish going into the deadline. We’re very excited Kyle chose to join our program!

The Red Lake Miners sincerely thank Ty Genik for his dedication and contributions to the team and wish him all the best in his future endeavors. Grysiuk will join the team today and will be in the lineup this weekend as the puck drops against the Fort Frances Lakers.
