Minnesota surprises English River in OT for 2nd straight win

COCHENOUR, Ont. – A Korey Muzzy goal 2:47 into overtime was the difference as the Minnesota Iron Rangers knocked off the English River Miners for a second straight game as they pulled out a 4-3 come from behind victory in a Superior International Junior Hockey League matinee Sunday afternoon at Cochenour Arena.

English River started off strong grabbing a 2-0 lead after one period of play on markers by Sidney Gladue and Nash Dabb.

Muzzy started the Minnesota comeback with his first of the day at 1:47 of the second however the Miners regained their cushion three and a half minutes later on Tyrell Bourk’s initial SIJHL tally.

The Iron Rangers got that back though courtesy of Jonathan Yanovsky’s first league marker at 8:58.

Minnesota then forced OT in the third as they struck shorthanded with 12:12 remaining in regulation as Eli Kinsman collected his first goal in an Iron Rangers’ jersey.

In the extra session, Muzzy finished off the comeback as he notched his second of day by beating English River netminder Spencer Eschyschyn to end it.

The Miners outshot Minnesota 44-42 with Alex Burke picking up the win and Eschyschyn the loss.
