Iron Rangers surprise Miners 4-2

COCHENOUR, Ont. – The Minnesota Iron Rangers struck for three third period goals to surprise the English River Miners 4-2 Saturday in a Superior International Junior Hockey League contest at Cochenour Arena.

Terix Fischer-Kobes’ first SIJHL tally gave the Miners the lead 8:15 into the contest only to see Minnesota’s Gray Irwin notch his first for his club in the latter stages of the stanza.

English River went back in front midway through second as Sidney Gladue’s 11th of the campaign held up entering the third.

In that final session however it was all Iron Rangers starting with Kenny Hasbargen’s tying tally at 2:54.

The power play allowed the visitors to secure the game-winner off the stick of Logan Froberg under three minutes later.

Jack Stensgard then iced it with an empty netter with five seconds to go round out the scoring.

Jackson Nelson turned in a stellar 35-save performance to record the win for Minnesota while Michael Lenko faced 35 shots in defeat for the Miners.

The same two teams meet again Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. back at Cochenour Arena.
