Miners Acquire Simon Hamilton

Red Lake, Ontario – The Red Lake Miners are pleased to announce the acquisition of 2005-born forward Simon Hamilton from the Creston Valley Thunder Cats. The trade also involved Ethan Cerone moving to the Columbia Valley Rockies, affording Ethan the opportunity to play closer to home.

Hamilton comes to the Miners after a solid performance with the Thunder Cats, where he played 21 games, scoring 6 goals and providing 4 assists for a total of 10 points. He began the season with the Fredericton Red Wings of the MHL, contributing 1 goal in just 2 games before joining Creston Valley.

“I’m thrilled to join the Red Lake Miners,” said Hamilton. “My goals are to have fun playing junior and continue playing at the highest level I can while I still can. I wanted to play for the Miners because I’ve heard we have a good team and can make a run for the Centennial Cup. I like to model my game after Claude Giroux. I am a smart player and see the ice well; I like to make plays and set up teammates.”

Head Coach and General Manager Lee Stone expressed his enthusiasm about Hamilton joining the team: “Simon is a welcome addition to our club. He is a very smart player that can create offense without sacrificing the defensive side of the game. With Simon’s addition, our forward group is becoming very deep. He will provide another level of competition within our lineup with his skill and smarts. His experience in both the MHL and KIJHL will help in the transition to our league. We are excited to get rolling with Simon!”

The Red Lake Miners would like to extend their gratitude to Ethan Cerone for his contributions to the hockey club last season and wish him the best of luck with the Columbia Valley Rockies.
