Miners’ Benedetto blanks Iron Rangers

RED LAKE, Ont. – Vince Bendetto made 18 saves for his first Superior International Junior Hockey League shutout while Keegan Tiringer dished out two assists to help the Red Lake Miners blank the Minnesota Iron Rangers 3-0 Friday night at Cochenour Arena.

Tiringer picked up both of his helpers in the opening 20 minutes of the contest as he set-up markers for Red Lake by Shaye Sommerfeld, who notched his eighth, and Liam Stalwick, who tallied in his SIJHL debut for the Miners.

After a scoreless second stanza, Michael Di Lullo helped secure the home ice victory with a late power play marker as his 19th of the season rounded out the scoring at 15:42 of the third.

Nick Corneliusen in the Iron Rangers net turned in another solid performance for Minnesota making 53 saves in defeat.

The same two teams will meet again Saturday back in Red Lake.
