Lucky 7 for English River with win over Minnesota

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – The English River Miners franchise record winning streak grew again Thursday as they skated to their seventh Superior International Junior Hockey League victory in a row as they defeated the Minnesota Iron Rangers 5-4 at Hoyt Lakes Arena at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Michael Di Lullo had a big night for the Miners as he notched a hat trick and added an assist for a four-point game.

Di Lullo started the night’s scoring as he scored the lone marker of the opening period.

After Austin Kuhn made it 2-0 for the visitors early in the second, Minnesota struck twice later in the frame to level the affair at 2-2 thanks to the initial SIJHL tallies for Korey Muzzy and Austin Boyle.

Cole Thompson then gave the Iron Rangers the lead 33 seconds into the third only to see English River counter with efforts from Matt O’Neill and Di Lullo in rapid succession.

Di Lullo then finished off his big night with the eventual game-winner midway through the final stanza.

Minnesota got one back, via the power play, at 12:14, but Aaron Bessey’s goal would be the final one of the night.

The Miners outshot the Iron Rangers 44-40 with Spencer Eschyschyn picking up the win in relief of starter Michael Lenko.

Eschyschyn stopped 17 of the 19 shots he faced while Lenko allowed two on 21 attempts.

Jackson Nelson suffered the loss for Minnesota.
