Derek had these comments on his new extension with the club:
I’m very excited and proud to be a part of the Miners organization for the next 3 years as we continue to build and develop a solid program! Thank you to team President Jason Vinet and the entire English River Miners Executive for this opportunity. I feel honoured and appreciate the support that the executive and community continues to show in me in my role as Head Coach and GM. We are all united together and it takes everyone not just one person; I am blessed to work with such great people every day. Last but not least I would like to thank my staff and our players who have worked extremely hard for this organization on and off the ice. Without their hard work and determination to get better every day I wouldn’t be in this position.
