Dryden holds off Red Lake rally to win in OT

RED LAKE, Ont. – A Ryan Brandt goal with 11 seconds left in overtime helped the Dryden GM Ice Dogs withstand a Red Lake Miners third period rally and pull out a 5-4 triumph in a Superior International Junior Hockey League contest Saturday at Cochenour Arena.

Red Lake did open the night’s scoring four minutes in as Michael Di Lullo reached the 50-point plateau on the season with his 24th goal of the campaign.

Countering, Dryden roared back by striking three times before the first period was complete thanks to tallies from Evan Pakkala, Jacob Siebenga and Trygve Many Guns.

Veteran GM Ice Dogs forward Eric Stout made it 4-1 for the visitors 5:55 into the second as he collected his 21st of the season and 80th goal overall in his SIJHL career as he skated in his 125th league contest.

Bryce Young got one back for the Miners midway through the session to make it a 4-2 game after 40 minutes.

Continuing to battle back, Red Lake drew closer 5:40 into the third thanks to Ethan Stuckless.

They then tied it with under nine minutes left in regulation, via the power play, on Young’s second of the evening and SIJHL-best 42nd to force OT.

In was late in the extra session that Brandt finished it for Dryden as he completed the work of teammates Stout and Rayman Bassi to give the guests the additional point.

Stout, Bassi and Malcolm Huemmert each had two assists in the win for the GM Ice Dogs.

Shots on goal in the match-up were 35 apiece with Jacob Anthony picking up the win while Cameron Ceci suffered the setback in helping the Miners earn a point in defeat.
