Allkins tallies twice as Dryden defeats English River 4-1

DRYDEN, Ont. – The Dryden GM Ice Dogs got a pair of tallies, including the game-winner, from the Superior International Junior Hockey League’s leading goal and point producer in Braeden Allkins to help them defeat the English River Miners 4-1 in a match-up Wednesday at Memorial Arena.

Buoyed by the announcement prior to the game of being named the host of the 2018 Dudley-Hewitt Cup Central Canada Jr. A Championship, Dryden started quickly in this one, notching the night’s opening tally just 43 seconds in on Braedyn Aubin’s 21st of the season.

English River countered quickly however getting the equalizer on the next shift compliments of Jamie Driedger’s 15th at 1:20.

The GM Ice Dogs went back in front 12 minutes into the session on January’s CCM Hockey performer of the month Allkins’ league-leading 34 of the season.

Dryden added another in the latter stages of the session when Kris Hamlin struck shorthanded to put the home side up by two.

After a scoreless middle stanza, Allkins tacked on SIJHL-best marker number 35 with five minutes to go in regulation to round out the scoring and secure the victory.

Shots on net were 38 apiece on the night with Ben Dennis picking up the win while Michael Lenko suffered the loss.
