Tisi’s 3 point-night helps lead Miners past Lakers

RED LAKE, Ont. – Dante Tisi scored once and dished out two assists, including one on the game-winner, as the Red Lake Miners went on to defeat the Fort Frances Lakers 7-3 Friday in a Superior International Junior Hockey League affair at Cochenour Arena.

Fort Frances did score first in the contest on a Brett Hahkala effort at 1:43, but Red Lake countered with a trio of tallies before the opening frame came to a close on markers from Tisi, Bryce Young and Caleb Paisley.

The Miners tacked on three more in the middle session to go up 6-1 thanks to goals from Stratton Pickett and Connor Jacobs at even strength and Spencer Milne while his side was shorthanded.

Nick Lucas did get one back for the Lakers later in the session as he clicked on the power play at 14:34.

Moving on to the third, Cole Allan picked up another for Fort Frances midway through the session before Young rounded out the scoring late with his second of the evening and SIJHL-leading 32nd overall.

Cole Bohnet finished with three assists for Red Lake in the triumph.

Zach Willms made 32 saves to record the win for the Miners.

Jacob Gnidziejko started for the Lakers and allowed three against on 10 shots in just over 13 minutes of work while Matt Booth suffered the loss in lengthy relief while handling 22 of the 26 attempts fired his way.

The two teams will finish off a home-and-home Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Ice for Kida Arena in Fort Frances.
