Thunder Bay comes from behind to edge English River

COCHENOUR, Ont. – Brad Thrower scored once and assisted on another as the Thunder Bay North Stars topped the English River Miners 4-3 Friday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Cochenour Arena.

Thunder Bay started fast in this one notching the night’s opening tally just 13 seconds into the contest on Brad Arabia’s 16th goal of the season.

English River countered with the equalizer at 5:04 when Kole Comin connected on the power play to tie it at 1-1.

The North Stars regained the lead with a man advantage effort of their own as Thrower beat Miners’ starter Spencer Eschyschyn at 16:15.

The home side drew level early in the second on Sidney Gladue’s 14th then went in front at 18:34 thanks to Michael Di Lullo.

However Thunder Bay came right back to level the proceedings just 24 seconds later as Nicholas Nigro bagged his 21st goal of 2016-17.

The North Stars then got the game-winner 6:40 into the third as recently acquired Austin Storm scored his first for his new club, and fourth overall, to give his side a second straight come from behind triumph over the Miners.

English River outshot Thunder Bay 35-30 on the night with Nathaniel Dupuis picking up the win and Eschyschyn the loss.
