RED LAKE, Ont. – Ethan Stuckless scored his second goal of the game midway through the third period as the Red Lake Miners pulled out a narrow 3-2 victory over the visiting Dryden GM Ice Dogs Tuesday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Cochenour Arena.
A two-man advantage helped the Miners open the scoring seven and a half minutes into the contest as they moved the puck around nicely that resulted Ryan Howe sending a cross-ice pass to a waiting Morgan Venne, who one-time a blast that beat GM Ice Dogs starter Jacob Anthony.
Still on the power play, Red Lake added another at 8:55 when Ethan Stuckless took a feed from behind the net and stuffed in his fifth of the season to put the home side up by a pair.
Battling back in the middle session, Dryden got one back when Curtis Magas struck shorthanded to put the visitors on the board as he broke in alone on Miners’ netminder Zach Willms and snapped a low shot that found its way in at 11:39.
The GM Ice Dogs then drew level at 6:56 of the third as newcomer Jimmy Sturdivent walked into one while pinching in from the right point and blasted one through a maze in front to level the proceedings for his first SIJHL goal in his debut.
However, Red Lake regrouped and collected the game-winner off the stick Stuckless, who was foiled by Anthony just moments before, jamming in a loose puck off a Howe attempt from close range.
Willms in the Miners net finished with 46 saves to record the win helping his side to improve to 5-0 on the season.
Anthony faced 33 attempts in defeat for Dryden, who slipped to 3-3-1-0 on the campaign.
