Siebenga shines as English Rivers completes weekend sweep of Fort Frances

COCHENOUR, Ont. – Jacob Siebenga had a goal and five assists as his huge offensive output helped lead the English River Miners to a 7-3 victory over the Fort Frances Lakers in a Superior International Junior Hockey League matinee Sunday afternoon at Cochenour Arena.

Fort Frances did get off to a good start as Nick Lucas notched his 15th goal of the season midway through the opening frame.

English River got that back though as they capitalized on a man advantage chance with Spencer Milne picking up the equalizer at 15:11.

Milne then put the Miners in front early in the second period with his second of the day and 14th overall.

However Jack Bernie countered for the Lakers 55 seconds later to knot the affair at 2-2.

Siebenga then helped set-up Nic Herringer and Michael Di Lullo later in the session to put the home side up by a pair after 40 minutes.

English River seized control in the opening moments of the third as they struck twice before the period was a minute old on goals by Dante Tisi and Siebenga.

Ian Jarvis did get one back for Fort Frances at 7:13, but Brody Jennings rounded out the scoring for the Miners a couple shifts later during a power play opportunity.

Milne chipped in with three assists to complete a five-point afternoon while Jennings had a couple of helpers to go along with his goal.

Shots on net in the contest favoured English River 37-30 with Westin Cardwell picking up the win and Ismael Ralsten the loss.

The victory was the Miners fourth in a row as they improved to 7-2 in their past nine outings.
