Red Lake’s Bryce Young named SIJHL Rookie of the Year

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Thursday that Bryce Young of the Red Lake Miners has been unanimously selected its Rookie of the Year for the 2018-19 season, in balloting completed by each of its member clubs.

Young earned league Rookie of the Year laurels over fellow nominees, Rayman Bassi of the Dryden GM Ice Dogs, and Bryce Johnson of the Thief River Falls Norskies.

As the first Miners’ player to receive the accolades, the now 19-year-old The Pas, Man., product, had a tremendous first season in the SIJHL, notching the second-most goals in a single campaign in league history, with 60, and doled out 41 assists for 101 points.

He also topped all SIJHL skaters in both power play and shorthanded tallies with 15 and seven respectively and chipped in with five game-winning markers.
