Red Lake takes high-scoring preseason match-up vs. Fort Frances

RED LAKE, Ont. – The Red Lake Miners picked up goals from seven different skaters to help them defeat the Fort Frances Lakers 7-5 Saturday in a Superior International Junior Hockey League preseason contest at Cochenour Arena.

Each side would score twice in the first period with Christian Ward at even strength and Bryce Young via the man advantage connecting for Red Lake while Jaedin Ness notched both Fort Frances markers.

A back and forth middle session saw Anthony Antonelli give the Lakers the lead at 1:50 only to see Jun Yi Jhong strike on the power play to tie things up once more.

Kirk Coppock converted on an extra man chance for the visitors later in the stanza, but the Miners picked up a pair of late goals from Aiden Gleisner and Dante Tisi to give the hosts a 5-4 cushion after two.

Continuing to trade chances, Red Lake had tallies from Owen Lee and Ty Lawrence wrapped around one by the Lakers’ Kaleb Bruyere to finish off the night’s scoring.

Jordan Tkachuk dished out three assists to aid the Miners’ offensive cause while Nick Lucas had a couple of helpers for Fort Frances.

The Lakers held the edge in shots by a 36-28 count.

Both clubs will now begin final preparations for their respective SIJHL season openers Friday with Fort Frances visiting Dryden while Red Lake entertains Thunder Bay in a pair of 7:30 p.m. starts.
