Red Lake rocks Minnesota

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – The Red Lake Miners saw seven different players register multiple points Wednesday evening as they went on to rock the Minnesota Iron Rangers 11-2 in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Red Lake took control of the contest early as they skated out to a 3-0 lead after one period of play thanks to even strength tallies from Ty Lawrence and Ryan Patterson, along with a man advantage effort courtesy of Stratton Pickett.

The Miners kept coming in the middle stanza as they tacked on four more markers to go up by seven with Morgan Venne, Bryce Young, Spencer Milne and Lawrence all finding the back of the net.

Milne and Venne then scored again early in the third before Garrett Wojcicki put Minnesota on the board at 4:40.

Red Lake’s Milne finished off a hat trick right after that while Young’s second of the night and league-leading 38th extended the visitors cushion.

The Iron Rangers’ Erik Engdahl rounded out the scoring late with his third of the campaign with assists going to Zach Finke and Matt Turnbull.

Milne paced the Miners offensively with five points while Young, Venne and Pickett had four each.

Vince Benedetto picked up the win in net for the Red Lake while Nick Corneliusen and Synjen Amende both saw action in net for Minnesota in the loss.
