RED LAKE, Ont. – A Connor Jacobs marker just past the nine-minute plateau of the third period held up to be the game-winner as the Red Lake Miners went on to defeat the Dryden GM Ice Dogs 6-4 Tuesday evening in a Superior International Junior Hockey League encounter at Cochenour Arena.
Red Lake snagged a 2-1 lead after one sandwiching goals from Keegan Tiringer and Michael Di Lullo around one from Dryden’s Malcolm Huemmert.
The Miners then went up by a pair in the latter stages of the second stanza when Bryce Young notched his SIJHL-leading 52nd goal.
Action in the final stanza proved to be back and forth as the two sides traded tallies as they went on to strike three times apiece.
After Kyle Uzelman put Red Lake up 4-1, Eric Stout countered 20 seconds later for the GM Ice Dogs.
Jacobs then picked up the eventual difference maker at 9:11 only to see Dryden answer once more on the next shift with Jacob Siebenga slamming in his 23rd overall.
It was more Siebenga as he struck shorthanded at 16:33 to bring the visitors to within one.
However, Shaye Sommerfeld iced it for the Miners with a late empty netter to help secure the home win.
Zach Willms made 37 saves to pickup the victory for Red Lake.
In net for Dryden, Jacob Anthony suffered the loss allowing five on 34 attempts with Jordan Wilde was spotless in over 10 minutes of relief and made three saves.
