For the last time in the regular season the Red Lake Miners made their way down the 105 and on to Dryden where they would face the Ice Dogs. Zach Willms would start between the pipes for the Miners while Jordan Wilde would start for the Ice Dogs.
Miners would open the first period scoring at 3:26 on the power play. Dante Tisi would score his 7th of the year with Pickett and DiLullo picking up the helpers. Ice Dogs would tie it up at 1 at 5:27 on Malcolm Heummert’s 18th. Dogs would make it 2-1 at 18:25 when Brody Neilsen scored his 6th of the season. After 20 minutes Dryden leads the Miners 2-1.
At 1:44 of the second Malcom Heummert made it 3-1 Dogs with his 19th. Following the team moto of resilience the Miners dug down and worked hard to get back in the game. Shaye Sommerfeld would score his 16th at 10:17 to cut the lead to 1. At 15:59 Ryan Patterson would put the puck past Wilde for his 11th. After 40 minutes of play the game is tied at 3.
Liam Stalwick would put the Miners up 1 at 9:35 scoring his 4th. with the Ice Dogs pressing and Wilde on the bench for an extra attacker Ty Lawrence got the puck of the draw and banked it down into the empty net for a 5-3 Miners lead. That would be it for scoring and the Miners come back after being down 2 early to win 5-3.
Scoring his 11th of the year Ryan Patterson was given the Goldcorp Red-Lake Mines-Hard to Play Against Hard Hat.
Tonights yellow “Mucker” of the night helmet would go to Connor Jacobs.
The Miners have clinched 2nd place in the SIJHL standings for the first time in franchise history which means they will have a first round bye.
Zach Willms has set a franchise record for goaltending wins with 23 passing Michael Lenko’s 22.
Miners take the season series over the Ice Dogs 10-3-1-0.
Miners next action is March 8th & 9th at the Cochenour Arena when the league leading Thunder Bay North Stars come to town.
