North Stars’ Walsh named SIJHL – Play It Again Sports player of the week
THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Thunder Bay North Stars defenceman Ryan Walsh has been named its Play It Again Sports player of the week for the period ending Dec. 11.
Suiting up in three away games last week, the 20-year-old Thunder Bay native registered points in all of them helping the North Stars secure three road wins and extend their winning streak to seven in succession while also maintaining their hold on top spot in the SIJHL standings.
Walsh began with an assist in the club’s come from behind triumph at English River Thursday.
He then set-up two more tallies, including the game-winner, in another narrow triumph Friday vs. the Miners.
Walsh then dished out a couple more helpers Saturday as the North Stars completed the road-sweep of English River with a shootout triumph Saturday at Cochenour Arena.
He now has gotten on the scoresheet in nine of his past 10 outings and currently shares the league-lead in offensive production among SIJHL defencemen with teammate Joe Newhouse with 26 apiece as both blue-liners have scored four times and doled out 22 assists.
Also earning consideration for Play It Again Sports player of the week honours were the following:
