North Stars 15th; Miners 16th; GM Ice Dogs honourable mention in CJHL rankings

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – For the first time this season, three Superior International Junior Hockey League clubs have earned recognition in the Canadian Junior Hockey League’s weekly Top 20 rankings.

In the listings announced Monday the league-leading Thunder Bay North Stars were tabbed 15th in the 132-team CJHL while the surging English River Miners made their first-ever appearance in the rankings at No. 16 and the Dryden GM Ice Dogs received honourable mention status.

Thunder Bay currently sits in top spot in the SIJHL standings with 17 points on an 8-3-1-0 mark.

As for red-hot English River, they are riding a six-game winning streak and have moved into second spot in the league with 14 points with their 7-2-0-0 record. They also boast the best winning percentage in the league at .778 and hold three games in hand on the North Stars.

Dryden meanwhile sits third in the SIJHL with 13 points and a record of 6-2-1-0.

The lone remaining unbeaten side in the CJHL, in the 12-0-0-0 Steinbach Pistons (MJHL), is once again the No. 1 club in the CJHL this week.

A pair of Quebec Junior Hockey League squads, in the Terrebonne Cobras and College Francais de Longueuil round out the top three in second and third respectively.
