Norskies’ Stang stings Miners for 2 tallies in SIJHL Showcase win

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. – Tommy Stang tallied twice Tuesday night to help propel the Thief River Falls Norskies to a 4-1 triumph over the English River Miners in Game 3 of the Superior International Junior Hockey League Showcase at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Stang got things going offensively for Thief River Falls 70 seconds after the opening face-off by beating English River starter Michael Lenko.

The Norskies then went up 2-0 late in the first as Logan Jackson notched his fifth of the season at 17:19.

After a scoreless middle session, Cody Aarvig extended the TRF lead midway through the final frame.

They then came back and collected another less than a minute later on Stang’s second of the evening.

The Miners dashed Ryan Buttazzoni’s shutout bid with 4:25 left in regulation thanks to Alex McPhee’s third to round out the scoring.

Buttazzoni finished with 30 stops however to record the victory while Lenko made 40 saves in defeat for English River.

The SIJHL Showcase wraps up Wednesday back in Thief River Falls with a trio of tilts on the slate.

It all begins at 1 p.m. CT as the Miners take on the Thunder Bay North Stars, which will be followed by the Dryden GM Ice Dogs meeting the Minnesota Iron Rangers at 4:15 p.m. before concluding with the Norskies going up against the Fort Frances Lakers at 7:30 p.m.
