Norskies complete weekend sweep of Miners

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. – An Alec Severson goal 15:54 into the second period was the game-winner as the Thief River Falls Norskies skated to a 2-1 decision over the Red Lake Miners in a Superior International Junior Hockey League match-up Saturday at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

A Thief River Falls power play helped them notch the lone of the opening 20 minutes when Zach Ross picked up his second of the campaign at 12:20.

Red Lake tied things up five and a half minutes into the middle session as Bryce Young fed Stratton Pickett for the equalizer.

However, Severson got that back as he provided the decider in the back half of the frame.

It was a tight-checking affair the rest of the way with Norskies’ netminder Fletcher Bolda finishing with 34 stops to pick up the victory.

Zach Willms meanwhile faced 34 shots in the narrow setback for the Miners.
