The Red Lake Miners fresh off a #18 ranking in the CJHL hosted the Minnesota Iron Rangers at the Cochenour Arena. Nikolaos Manetas would make his first SIJHL start for the Ranges while Zach Willms would start for the Miners. Minnesota battling some injuries and illnesses had a short roster for the game.
Miners got on the board first at 8:06 when Caleb Paisley scored his first as a Miner to make it 1-0. Dante Tisi’s 2nd of the year on the power play would make it 2-0 at 11:09. At 16:18 the Miners would make it 3-0 with Michael DiLullo’s 12th of the year. Miners peppered Manetas with 22 shots in the period but Mantes made some really great saves.
The second period saw things start turning from bad to worse for the Iron Rangers. Goals from DiLullo and Tiringer in the first 2 minutes would make it 5-0 Miners. Miners would get a shorthanded marker from Stratton Pickett, then a Shaye Sommerfeld PP marker and an even strength marker from Dante Tisi before the period was over, Miners would throw 21 shots at Manetas while Willms would see 11. 8-0 after 40 minutes.
Things dint get better for the Rangers in the 3rd. Pickett’s 14th, Milne’s 8th and Paisley’s second of the night would end Manetas’s night at 7:52 of the third. Synjen Amende would come in for a touch over 12 minutes of work, Amende was treated much better. Kyle Uzelman’s 6th would make it 12-0 before Sommerfeld would get his 6th and 7th to make it 14-0. Zach Willms faced 24 shots in total to get the win and shut out. Miners 14 Iron Rangers 0.
Shaye Sommerfeld was give the Goldcorp Red Lake Mines ‘Hard to Play Against” hard helmet for his hat trick and 6 points.
Caleb Paisley was given the yellow “Mucker” of the night helmet for his 6 point effort.
Sommerfeld, Paisley and Tiringer each had 6 points. Miners scored 3 on the power play and 2 short handed goals.
