Miners Take Overtime Win

For the second night in a row the Kam River Fighting Walleye took the ice at the Cochenour Arena looking for their first road trip win. Coming off his first Junior ‘A’ win Friday night Cole Wheaton would get his third straight start for the Miners while Eric Vanska started in goal for the visitors.

First period action saw  both goaltenders getting tested and making some big saves.  The Miners would get on the board first with 40 seconds left on the clock.  With a Walleye player in the penalty box, Nic Bolin got a pass back to Alim Darmenov at the point. Darmenov would score his first of the season on a wrist shot over the glove of Vanska. After 20 minutes of play the Miners led 1-0  on the scoreboard and held a 10-9 edge on shots.

Kam River tied it up just moments into the second period.  Owen Lancaster made the Miners pay for sloppy play in their own end putting home a backhand past Wheaton for his first SIJHL goal 26 seconds into the period.  Both Goaltenders would keep this game tied at 1 the rest of the period.  After 40 minutes the game is tied at 1 and the Walleye outshot the Miners 26-17.

For the second straight night the Miners would score the go ahead goal in the third period.  At 10:58 Carter Albrecht would pick off a Walleye pass and beat Vanska over his glove for an unassisted goal. With Vanska on the bench for the extra attacker Jeremy Dunmore scored his first of the season banging a rebound past Wheaton to tie the game at 2 with 12 seconds left on the clock.  After 60 minutes of play the game is tied at 2 and headed to overtime.

35 seconds into the extra frame Brady Harroun would get the pass over to Lucas Piekarczyk who beat Vanska  to end the game with his 4th goal of the season.
