Miners snap Norskies’ impressive 18-game win streak

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. – Michael Di Lullo tallied twice as the English River Miners snapped the Thief River Falls Norskies impressive 18-game Superior International Junior Hockey League winning streak Friday after skating to a 4-2 road triumph at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

The setback for the No. 1 Canadian Junior Hockey League-ranked Norskies was their first of the season as Thief River Falls saw their franchise-record 18-game run came to an end as they fell to 18-1 overall this season.

Matt O’Neill put the visitors in front midway through the first period before Michal Johnson tied it for the home side during a man advantage opportunity at 16:27.

Di Lullo then put the Miners back in front in late the middle stanza as he finished off a Jacob Siebenga feed at 18:28.

English River’s Kyle Rosolowski’s power play marker just past the three-minute mark of the third put the Miners up by two as he notched the eventual game-winner.

Mitchell Soderberg brought the Norskies back to within one with 7:51 remaining in regulation however Di Lullo came back a couple shifts later to provide some insurance, in what turned out to be the night’s final goal.

Siebenga had two assists in the contest for English River.

Michael picked up the victory in net for the Miners while Brock Lefebvre suffered the setback for Thief River Falls.
