Miners Sign Promising Goaltender Koen Webber
Red Lake, Ontario – The Red Lake Miners are pleased to announce the signing of 2006-born goaltender Koen Webber, a standout goaltender from the Titans Hockey Union U18 program in the JPHL. Hailing from St. Albert, Alberta, Webber had an impressive 2023-24 season, finishing at the top of all major JPHL categories with an undefeated record of 13-0, a remarkable 1.60 GAA, and a .935 save percentage.
Koen Webber expressed his enthusiasm about joining the Miners, stating, “My short-term goal is to fit in as a Miner and play my role assigned! My long-term goal is to be a top goalie in the league and win the Bill Salonen Cup. I am super excited to be a Miner and play in the town of Red Lake and take in the great support.” He also shared insights into his playing style, saying, “I model my game after Jeremy Swayman. We resemble a calm and composed game. Miners fans can expect to see a calm and relaxed goalie who gives 110% every night.”
Head Coach and General Manager Lee Stone also shared his excitement about the new addition to the team. “We are very lucky Koen chose to continue his hockey career in Red Lake. We think he will be very successful in the SIJHL, and we look forward to being a stepping stone in Koen’s long hockey career.” Stone emphasized Webber’s potential, adding, “We will throw him to the fire right away in Ironwood. We think he has the potential to be a very strong first-year goalie in our league. He doesn’t chase the game and plays a very calm style in between the pipes. We can’t wait to see him in a Miners jersey.”
