Miners Sign Jager Marshall

Miners Sign Forward Jager Marshall

Red Lake, Ontario – The Red Lake Miners are pleased to announce the signing of 2006-born forward Jager Marshall, who will join the team for the upcoming weekend against Kam River. Originally committed to the Notre Dame Hounds, Marshall played last season with the High River Flyers of the HJHL.

Hailing from Foothills, AB, Marshall played 32 regular season games for the Flyers last year, showcasing his skills with an impressive tally of 11 goals and 18 assists, totaling 29 points. He added an additional 6 points in 6 playoff games.

“In simple conversations, Red Lake feels like a place that I will be ‘wanted’ and it reminds me of all the small towns surrounding me at home, which adds to a home sense feeling,” said Marshall. He also expressed his admiration for NHL star Nathan MacKinnon, stating, “He’s a brilliant playmaker but brings a physical presence which helps make him a sound 200-ft forward. He’s got excellent edge work and speed, which are all aspects of his game I like to embody in my own game.”

Fans can expect to see a dynamic playing style from Marshall. “You can expect some physicality in the corners off the forecheck, shot blocks, and apples as I’m a pass-first player,” he added. His goals for the season are clear: “My short-term goal is to win the Bill Salonen Cup and then compete for the Centennial Cup in Calgary. My long-term goal is to play U-Sports Hockey while taking either Geophysics or Chemical Engineering.”

Head Coach and General Manager Lee Stone shared his enthusiasm for the new addition. “We’ve been following Jager’s progress over the last several seasons playing for Colten Hayes. His development over the years has happened in part because of his work ethic, coachability, and willingness to do whatever it takes,” Stone remarked.

“The first thing people will notice is how incredibly gifted a skater he is; very fast and dynamic on his edges. He will help make us a faster team. He uses his speed to get in on the forecheck and isn’t afraid to finish checks. He has had success as a penalty killer at every level he has played, and we are excited to get him in a Miners jersey!” Stone added.
