Miners Sign Forward Corbyn Demchuk

Red Lake, Ontario – The Red Lake Miners are excited to announce the signing of 2006-born forward Corbyn Demchuk, who recently served as captain of the Leduc Oil Kings U18 AAA program.

Last season, Demchuk showcased his skills in the Alberta Elite Hockey League (AEHL), playing 38 regular-season games with the Oil Kings. He tallied an impressive 17 goals and 21 assists for a total of 38 points. In addition to his time with Leduc, he also gained valuable experience with the Fort McMurray Oil Barons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL), participating in four games, including two playoff contests.

“I’m here to win a SIJHL championship and go to the Cent. My long-term goal is to use hockey as a gateway to further my education,” said Demchuk. “I am most looking forward to meeting all the guys and coaches. I want to get better every day with them and am excited to showcase my game to them and the fans in Red Lake.”

Known for his strong two-way play, Demchuk models his game after NHL star Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. “He plays a strong 200-foot style game; a hard and accurate shot when he uses it. He also plays a calm style of play in high-intensity games,” he added.

Head Coach and General Manager Lee Stone expressed his enthusiasm for Demchuk’s addition to the team. “We are very fortunate Corbyn has chosen our program to take the next steps in his hockey career. His willingness to lead by example and sacrifice personal gain for the team stood out immediately while watching his game footage. Talking to former teammates and coaches, all we heard was how positively he influenced those around him with who he is as a person and how he played the game.”

Stone continued, “While many speak to his strong 200-foot game, we firmly believe that he is ready to take an offensive step in our league as a first-year player. We feel he is someone who can play in all situations for our team. Welcome to the family, Corbyn!”
