Red Lake, ON – Red Lake Miners Head Coach and General Manager Lee Stone has announced the signing of 2006-born forward Carter Deschamps for the 2023/24 Superior International Junior Hockey League season.
“We are beyond excited that Carter has chosen to return home to start his Junior Hockey career with the Miners,” Stone commented after announcing the Deschamps signing. “Carter has a lot of potential to play well beyond the SIJHL one day and we are excited to be a part of his development path. A big body that moves well and shoots the puck exceptionally well. Our goal is develop him and promote him to the next level,” Stone continued.
Deschamps played over 100 games in a variety of leagues last season with the Bishop’s College School U16 program, totalling 15 goals and 28 assists for 43 points. The season prior, Deschamps played for the Thunder Bay u16 AAA Kings, tallying 13 goals and 15 assists for 28 points in 33 games played.
“I can’t express how happy I am to play for my hometown team. Ultimately I decided to sign with the Miners organization because I believe I will have a lot of support from my home town. I’m really looking forward to getting to know some of the new guys and playing my heart out in my home arena,” Deschamps said after signing with the Miners. “I would say I am fast and am able to use my speed as a benefit to beat the opposition and I use my physicality to knock players off the puck. My short term goal is to play as hard as I can to try and move onto the next level, while my long term goal is to play NCAA D1 hockey,” he stated.
The 6’1”, 190lbs forward is currently preparing for the Sioux City Musketeers USHL camp in June and will be at Miners Main Camp in early September. Please welcome Carter to the Miners family!
