Miners’ Pickett commits to University of Victoria men’s program

RED LAKE, Ont. — The Red Lake Miners of the Superior International Junior Hockey League has announced that forward Stratton Pickett has committed to attend the University of Victoria and play for the Vikings men’s hockey program in the fall.

The Vikings are members of the five-school British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League League.

A native of Gem, Alta., the 20-year-old Pickett is in his second season in the SIJHL with the Miners.

He has already established personal single-season bests with the club in both goals and points with 19 and 35 respectively while his three shorthanded tallies so far in 2018-19 tie him for second among all league skaters.

In 87 career SIJHL contests, Pickett has produced 64 points on 28 markers and 36 helpers.

The Miners’ assistant captain is excited about starting the next chapter of his life as the future engineering student finishes off his Jr. A career in Red Lake.

“Getting a solid education is important to me and I’ve heard nothing but good things about the program and the school,” stated the Miners forward.

“Being able to play hockey on top of getting a great education is a bonus because I love playing and being able to do that for many more years at a competitive level is something I’ve been striving to do ever since I decided to play junior hockey,” added Pickett.
