Miners Outlast Lumberjacks

The Wisconsin Lumberjacks weathered the first winter storm in Northern Ontario to make their way to the Cochenour Arena to face the Red Lake Miners.  William Forrester would get the start in net for the Lumberjacks while Jack Osmond would get the nod for the Miners.

Miners would strike first when Jacob Lamoureux used his speed to break free and beat Forrester for his league leading 15th a short handed tally at 7:14.  Dillon Phillips would tie it up with his 6th at 13:47.  At 16:19 Aidan Ballance finished off a two on one passing play with Mason Mowat to put the Miners back up 2-1.  Shots on goal for the first period were 15-9 for the Miners.

Second period action would start with the Lumberjacks having momentum. Sal Poggiali would score his 9th of the season at 2:37 to tie the game at 2.  Colton Crysler scored his 9th at  3:37 to put the Miners back up by 1.  Dylan Olsen’s 2nd followed by Caden Sutter’s 3rd at 7:39 would give Wisconsin a 4-3 lead.  Matthew Macpherson and Dobie Unrau would both score their first goals in a Miners uniform to give the Miners a 5-3 lead.  Matthew Macpherson would get his second goal at 12:57 to finish the scoring in the lengthy second period for a 6-4 Miners lead.  Shots on goal in the second favoured the Lumberjacks 15-9.

Third period action would see Dillon Phillips score his second of the game at 12:48 to pull the Lumberjacks within 1. Aiden Corbett would score his 7th of the season at 15:29 to give the Miners a 7-5 lead.   Jack Osmond would do the rest of the work for the Miners to secure a 7-5 win. Shots on goal in the third period were 15-6 for the Lumberjacks.  Osmond stopped 34 shots for his 7th win of the season.
