After taking 3 out of 4 points in two games against the #1 ranked team in the CJHL the English River Miners crossed Northern Minnesota to face the Minnesota Iron Rangers. Westin Cardwell would start for the Miners in net well former Fort Frances Laker Rob Ivy got the start for the Iron Rangers.
The Miners would open the scoring at 15:22 when Nic Herringer beat Ivy for his second goal of the season. Just before the period would end the Iron Rangers would tie it up. Zac Horn would score his 5th of the season at 19:14. After 20 minutes of play Miners outshoot the Rangers 12-7 and the score is tied at 1.
Over half the second period would be played before Jared Janke would score his 15th of the season beating Ivy with a wrist shot at 12:51. Ethan Wong would make it 3-1 Miners at 13:42 putting a rebound past Ivy for his 6th of the season. Brendan Bombay would get his first goal of the season at 16:09 to make it a one goal game. Michael DiLullo would answer back for the Miners 22 seconds later with his 9th of the season to make it 4-2 for the Miners. Neither team would score another goal in the second period so after 40 minutes the Miners lead 4-2 and out shot the Rangers 15-9 in the period.
At 1:22 of the third period Jared Janke would notch his 16th of the season to give the Miners a 5-2 lead. Clayton Brown would make it a 2 goal difference at 8:48 scoring his 5th of the season. With Ivy on the bench for the extra attacker Jared Janke would complete the hat trick with 1 second left on the clock putting the puck in the empty net.
The Goldcorp “Hard to Play Against” award would go to Jared Janke with 3 goals and 1 assist.
Next up the Miners will have a second game against the Rangers in Hoyt Lake @ 5pm.
