On a cool and wet early wintery day the Red Lake Miners made their way down the 105 for their second straight road game against the Dryden GM Ice Dogs. Zach Wilms would get this second straight start in goal for the Miners while the Ice Dogs would counter with Jordan Wilde.
Miners would show their bus legs early in the first period. The inability to get the puck out and clear out the front of the net would cost the Miners quick. Braden Shea would bang a lose puck home for a quick 1-0 lead at 2:13. Miners would continue the bad play leading Derek Sweet-Coulter to call a time out just 4:15 into the first. The move seemed to work as the Miners would tie the game at one on the power play. Ethan Stuckless scored his first as a Miner with Toews picking up the assist. The score would stay tied until 17:21 when Eric Stout would capitalize on a Miners turnover scoring his 2nd of the year. After 20 minutes the Ice Dogs lead the Miners 2-1 and shots were 18-9 for Dryden.
Miners would tie it up quick just 48 seconds into the period. Spencer Milne scored his 2nd of the season with a wrist shot after taking a stretch pass from Toews. Braden Shea’s second of the the night at 4:51 would give the Ice Dogs a 3-2 lead until Kyle Uzelman scored his 2nd of the season would tie the game at 3 at 13:35. Miners would take an edge with a pair of quick goals later in the period. At 15:31 Statton Pickett notch his 2nd of the year before Stuckless would score a short-handed goal at 19:32 to give the Miners a 5-3 lead after 40 minutes of play.
The third period would favour the Ice Dogs who would score 2 goals before the 10 minute mark to get the scored tied at 5. That would be it for scoring and we are off to Overtime.
After some serious scoring chances for both sides Keilan Toews would score his first Junior A goal to give the miners a win.
With 1 goal and 4 assists Keillan Toews would get the Goldrcorp-Red Lake Mines Hard To Play Against Hard Hat.
Miners Captain Michael DiLullo was given the Mucker of the game helmet.
The Miners hand Dryden their first back to back home losses since 2015/16 season.
