THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Red Lake Miners forward Bryce Young has been named its final Play It Again Sports Player of the Week for the 2018-19 season.
In a pair of Red Lake victories to conclude the regular season, Young scored four times and assisted on two others to surpass the 100-point plateau for the 2018-19 campaign.
Friday he scored once and an assist in a 5-4 road triumph over the league-leading Thunder Bay North Stars before wrapping up the campaign with a hat trick, including registering his 60th goal, and helping set-up another tally as the Miners won 5-3 Saturday in Fort Frances.
The 19-year-old from The Pas, Man., concluded the regular season by becoming just the second player in SIJHL history to reach the 60-goal plateau in a single year.
Only former North Stars forward Kory McEwen notched more markers as he collected 69 back in 2005-06 helping his side win both the Bill Salonen Cup and the Dudley-Hewitt Cup.
On the season, Young also added 41 assists as his 101 points also established a team record to go with his goal count.
This marked the sixth time in 2018-19 that the Red Lake standout garnered SIJHL weekly honours.
