Miners Beat Lumberjacks In Shootout

The Wisconsin Lumberjacks opened their second half of the SIJHL on the road in Cochenour facing the Red Lake Miners. Kyler Lowden would stat in net for the Lumberjacks and Trent Boryszczuk would get his first start as a Miner wearing #30.

The Miners would strike first at 4:22 of the first on a shot from the point by Dobie Unrau for his 4th of the season. Aiden Corbett would make it 2-0 for the Miners on a great effort skating through the Lumberjacks defence and sliding one past Lowden for his 9th at 11:59. Wisconsin would get on the board at 17:47 when Zach Johnson caught the Miners in a puck handling mix up for a shorthanded goal his 10th of the season.  After 20. minutes of play then Miners led 2-1 and held a 17 -13 edge in shots.

Second period would see the Lumberjacks tie it with a power play tally from Zach Carson his 18th of the season to tie it at 2. Lumberjacks would take the lead at13:59 after a costly turnover in the Miners own zone left Zach Johnson alone to bang home a rebound for his second of the night.  After 40 minutes of play the Lumberjacks led 3-2. Shots on goal in the second period were 22 -14 in favour of the Lumberjacks.

After blowing a 2 goal lead for the second night in a row the Miners came out in the third looking to get back in the game.  It didn’t take long as Matthew Macpherson notched his 4th of the year at 1:51 to tie the game at 3. Both goalies would stand their ground and this game would head to 3 on 3 overtime where nothing was solved.  Up next was a shootout where the Miners would shoot first.  Aiden Corbett beat Lowden to give the Miners the early edge,  Boryszczuk stopped Ryder McMillan , Riley See then beat Lowden to give the Miners a chance to win then Boryszczuk stopped Carson to seal the win for the Miners.

Trent Boryszczuk stopped 50 shots plus both shooters in the extra frame to pick up his first JR a win.
