Miners Acquire Goaltender Nick Peters
Red Lake, ON – The Red Lake Miners are pleased to announce the acquisition of goaltender Nick Peters from the Coastal Tsunami of the Pacific Junior Hockey League (PJHL) in British Columbia, in exchange for future considerations.
Peters, a native of Powell River, BC, previously played under current Miners Head Coach and General Manager, Lee Stone, while with the Campbell River Storm. During his tenure with the Storm, Peters compiled an impressive 69-13-2 record over three seasons, showcasing his skills with a 2.48 GAA and a .914 SV%. His outstanding performance earned him nominations for Goalie of the Year for three consecutive seasons, culminating in a well-deserved win in the 2021-2022 season. Peters also holds the record for the most regular-season wins in Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL) history.
This season, Peters has served as Captain for the Coastal Tsunami, where he has demonstrated leadership and resilience, achieving a record of 12-15-0 with a 3.36 GAA and a .919 SV%.
Peters expressed his enthusiasm about joining the Miners, stating, “I played for Lee and with Vin, and I know they both are dedicated to winning a Championship. I’ve also heard nothing but good things about the organization and the town of Red Lake. My ultimate goal is to help the boys bring home Bill!”
Head Coach and General Manager Lee Stone shared his excitement about the acquisition: “Petey’s track record speaks for itself, but I’m lucky enough to have firsthand knowledge of how good he is when the pressure mounts. He has consistently raised his play during the playoffs over the last three seasons and he gives his team a chance to win every night.”
Stone further emphasized Peters’ unique skills: “He is an aggressive goalie that is always ready to make the big save. A unique trait that will help our transition game is his ability to play the puck. He’s essentially a third defenseman with how he handles it. He sees the potential this group has and what it can do down the stretch and into the playoffs, and he wants to be a big part of that. His leadership and experience will be invaluable to our team as we strive to have a successful second half of the season.”
