Red Lake, Ontario – The Red Lake Miners are excited to announce the acquisition of 2005-born forward Keaton Johnson from the Swan Valley Stampeders of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL). Standing at 6’2”, Johnson brings a powerful presence to the ice and an abundance of experience from his time in the MJHL.
During his two seasons with the Stampeders, Johnson showcased his skills in 52 regular-season games. Prior to joining the Stampeders, he achieved team success with the Winnipeg Wild AAA team, winning back-to-back MU18HL Championships.
Expressing his enthusiasm about joining the Miners, Johnson stated, “my short-term goals are to play to the best of my ability while I’m here. My long-term goal is to attend university while playing hockey. The most exciting thing about joining the Miners is getting the chance to play good hockey with a few of my old teammates!”
Johnson models his game after NHL power forward Marcus Foligno, describing himself as “a hard-working, gritty, 200-foot hockey player.”
Head Coach and General Manager Lee Stone praised Johnson’s work ethic and impact on the team: “Keaton is an extremely hard-working player who has immediately led by example during practices by playing the game hard and honest. He sets a tone with his size and physicality and isn’t afraid to play in the dirty areas of the ice. His willingness to take pucks to the net and create time and space for his teammates will be a major boost to our forward core.”
