Miners Acquire from Fort Frances

Red Lake, ON – The Red Lake Miners are pleased to announce the acquisition of 2004-born defenseman Kyle Garland from the Fort Frances Lakers of the Superior International Junior Hockey League (SIJHL) in exchange for future considerations.

Garland brings a wealth of experience, having played 112 games in the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) over the past three seasons. In the most recent season with the Fort Frances Lakers, he has played 25 games, recording 1 goal, 4 assists, and a total of 5 points while maintaining a +10 rating and accumulating 53 penalty minutes.

“I believe in the group Red Lake has and feel I can add a big part to it and help our chances at winning Bill while furthering my hockey career,” said Garland. “Fans can expect to see a hard, heavy game. I am hard to play against and use my skating and puck-moving ability to succeed. My goals are to lift Bill above my head and do whatever it takes to achieve that!”

Head Coach and General Manager Lee Stone expressed his enthusiasm for the addition of Garland to the team. “Kyle is an experienced veteran defenseman that will help stabilize our backend and provide a physical presence. He is hard to play against and moves well for his size. We wanted to add an ’04’ on the backend, and we were lucky to be able to find someone with Kyle’s experience and defensive acumen. We are excited to welcome Kyle to the Miners family!”

Garland will join the Miners on Tuesday and is set to make his debut next weekend against the Kenora Islanders.
