The Fort Frances Lakers and the Red Lake Miners met up for the second game of a two game series at the Cochenour Arena. The Miners hit the ice wearing a stunning new yellow 3rd jersey. Kiev Kineshanko would make his second straight start in net for the Miners while Mason Meyer would get the nod for the Lakers.
First period action opened up with a little sloppy play from both sides for a few minutes before the play started flowing a little smoother. Kaleb Bruyere would open up the scoring at 7:04 banging the puck past a down and out Kineshanko for his 3rd of the season. Mason Meyer would do his part in net for the Lakers and after 20 minutes of play the Lakers led 1-0.
Second period action saw the Miners pick up the pace. The only power play of the period went to the Miners who could not convert. The Miners would pepper Meyer with shots in the second outshooting the Lakers 19-4. Meyer was stellar in the second and after 40 minutes of play the Lakers still led 2-0.
The Miners had a little jump early in the third but it was the Lakers that would strike. Brandon Rosetti put a rebound past Kineshanko for his first SIJHL goal at 3:26 to put the Lakers up 2-0. The Miners would finally beat Meyer on Jake Parker’s power play marker at 4:52. 59 seconds later Ethan Pool would tie the game at 2 using his speed to get alone and beat Meyer to tie the game at 2. Both teams would get a power play opportunity later in the third period but neither could convert. The Miners would get a break late in the third when a point shot from Alim Darmenov would hit something and get redirected past Meyer for a 3-2 Miners lead at 18:43. Nic Bolin would add an empty netter to ice the Miners 4-2 win.
Kiev Kineshanko stopped 22 of 24 shots for his 6th win of the season.
