Lamoureux Buries OT Winner For Miners Win

Jacob Lamoureux called his bank shot off of aa sprawled out Connor Lemieux at 2:49 into the first overtime period to give the Red Lake Miners a 5-4 win over the Thunder Bay North Stars in game 3 of their SIJHL Playoff series. With the win the Miners trail the best of seven series 2-1.

Thunder Bay would score early in the first when Easton Glousher beat Trent Boryszczuk at 2:42 of the first.  That lead was short lived as Matthew MacPherson scored his first of the postseason just over a minute later.  After 20 minutes of play the game was tied at 1.

Second period action saw the Miners take the lead just 46 seconds into the period courtesy of Quintyn Sidaway’s power play marker his 4th of the post season.  Edison Weeks answered back for the North Stars with his 1st on the power play at 4:20.  Easton Gloucher’s second of the night at 7:49 would put the North Stars back in front. Jacob Lamoureux who led the SIJHL in goals during the regular season would get his 1st playoff goal at 11:32 to tie the game up at 3.  At 16:55 Luke DeCorby would score his first of the post season to give the Miners a 4-3 lead.  After a 5 goal second period the Miners would take a 4-3 lead into the intermission.

Third period action would see the North Stars push to tie the game up. The Miners would kill off 3 consecutive penalties in the first half of the period. With Connor Lemieux on the bench for the extra attacker Sam Skillestad would pick up a loose puck after a blocked shot and beat Boryszczuk high with 14 seconds left on the clock to tie the game.  This game head to a 20 minute sudden death overtime period.

Thunder Bay would get the early pressure in the overtime period but could not beat Boryszczuk. The Miners would make rush up the ice on their first good chance and after Lemieux made a couple saves Jacob Lamoureux picked up the loose puck.  With bodies sprawled and no net to aim for Lamoureux took the puck behind the net then shot it off an unsuspecting Lemieux for the overtime winner.

Trent Boryszczuk stopped 43 shots to pick up his first Junior A playoff win while Connor Lemieux made 33 saves in the loss.
