Lakers @ Miners – October 12, 2018

The Fort Frances Lakers would make their way up the 502 to the 105 to the Cochenour Arena where they would face the Red Lake Miners. The Miners were rewarded for their 3 game winning streak earlier this week with an honourable mention in the CJHL’s weekly rankings and looking to keep rolling at home. Jacob Gnidziejko would get the start in his SIJHL return for the Lakers while Zach Wilms would get his 4th straight start for the Miners.
Despite giving up the first 2 power plays of the game the Miners would strike first. Michael DiLullo would strip the puck and bank it of the boards to himself before beating Gnidziejko for a shorthanded goal and a 1-0 lead at 7:46. At 9:44 Kyle Uzelman would make it 2-0 on a deflection from a point shot by Jun Yi Zhong. At 14:14 Kaidin Hodgson would score his first Junior ‘A’ goal on a nice move to get the puck to his forehand on a rebound from a Dante Tisi point shot. Zach Wilms would keep the Lakers off the board and after 20 minutes the Miners lead 3-0.
The Miners would carry the momentum into the second period. Stratton Pickett would put home the rebound of a Bryce Young shot to make it 4-0 at 5:31. Pickett would make it 5-0 with his second of the night and 5th of the year at 10:29. that would be the end of the night for Gnidziejko who would be replaced by Matt Booth. Booth was welcomed to the game by Spencer Milne at 12:39. Milne would deflect a point shot from Zhong for his 3rd of the season and a 6-0 lead. Bryce Young made it 7-0 Miners at 16:58 grabbing the puck from a blocked shot and ripping it by booth for his 6th of the season. Miners couldn’t get out of the 2nd period unscathed though. Reece Hopfner would take advantage of a fallen Miner to break free and beat Wilms with only 9 seconds left in the frame. After 40 minutes the Miners lead 7-1.
Things slowed down a little in the 3rd period for goal scoring. Miners would take an 8-1 lead on DiLullo’s second of the night on the power play at 10:50. Fort Frances would get their own power play goal on a nice effort from Dustin Roitelman who beat Wilms to make it 8-2. That would be it for scoring and final score is Red Lake Miners 8 Fort Frances Lakers 2. Zach Wilms would get his 4th win of the season for the Miners.

Goldcorp Red Lake Mines “Hard to Play Against” Hard Hat would go to captain Michael DiLullo who had a short handed and a power play marker as well as an assist for a 3 point night.

Ty Lawrence was given the “Mucker” of the night yellow hard hard. Well Deserved Ty.
