Hawkes Signs With Miners

Red Lake, ON – Red Lake Miners Head Coach and General Manager Lee Stone has announced the signing of 2005-born forward Oliver Hawkes for the 2023/24 Superior International Junior Hockey League season.

“Oliver first came to our attention at the Western Elite Hockey Showcase in Calgary and he very quickly showed us why he’d make a great Miner,” Stone commented after announcing the Hawkes signing. “He plays with passion, an edge you can’t teach. He’s always involved both with and without the puck.      Someone you hate to play against but love to have on your team. He has the offensive skill to back it up too,” Stone continued.

Hawkes has played for the Leduc Oil Kings u18 AAA program in the AEHL for the last two seasons, tallying 5 goals, 16 assists and 21 points over 63 games.

“The Miners have the best development and growth opportunity for me as a player.  The enthusiasm of the coaches and being a part of a winning team made me want to be a member of the Miners organization. I’m looking forward to creating new friendships and improving as a player on the ice and as a person in general,” Hawkes said after signing with the Miners. “I am a very smart player with a great       attitude. I bring a physical presence every shift along with being an offensive threat with good hands while being very shifty. I like to consider myself a good play maker that makes heads up plays and I take pride in being able to lock guys down defensively,” he said in describing his game.

The 5’10”, 155lbs forward is currently training back home in Wetaskiwin and will be at Miners Main Camp in early September. Please welcome Oliver to the Miners family!
