English River rallies to edge Norskies

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. – The English River Miners got a pair of goals from Trevor Pereverzoff to help them rally from a two-goal second period deficit and defeat the Thief River Falls Norskies 5-4 Sunday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Jamie Driedger staked the Miners to an early lead only to see the Norskies strike twice in just over a minute to make it 2-1 on efforts by Mitchell Soderberg and Blair Lindholm.

Thief River Falls then connected on the power play 1:50 into the middle stanza on Connor Smith’s ninth of the season.

After the Miners’ Ryder Prue and the Norskies’ Keaton Huot traded tallies, English River rattled off a pair of markers courtesy of Pereverzoff to knot the affair at 4-4 after 40 minutes.

The Miners then got the go ahead goal 4:25 into the third as Austin Kuhn notched the game-winner for the visitors.

Driedger and Matt O’Neill chipped in with two assists apiece to aid the English River cause.

Shots on goal favoured Thief River Falls by a 37-32 count with Michael Lenko picking up the win for the Miners while Ryan Buttazzoni suffered the loss for the Norskies.
