English River rallies in 3rd to edge Minnesota

COCHENOUR, Ont. – The English River Miners rallied from a two-goal third period deficit by notching three unanswered goals to pull out a 4-3 victory over the Minnesota Iron Rangers in a Superior International Junior Hockey League matinee Sunday afternoon at Cochenour Arena.

English River did secure the lone marker of opening 20 minutes on Colton Johnson’s third of the season at 11:44.

The middle session belonged to Minnesota as they struck three times in the session to go up 3-1 after two on a pair of tallies from Dalton Thieson and a Kenny Hasbargen power play effort.

The Miners started their comeback near the five-minute mark of the final frame thanks to Jared Janke.

Up a man later, the home side drew level at 8:34 when defenceman Trevor Perverezoff notched his 13th of the campaign to knot the affair at 3-3.

Heading into the late stages of regulation, English River completed the comeback when Michael Di Lullo buried the game-winner with 2:51 to go to give his side their fourth straight win.

Di Lullo and Zac Schlitt also chipped in with two assists apiece in the triumph.

Michael Lenko picked up the win on relief for the Miners stopping all eight attempts he faced after replacing starter Spencer Eschyschyn after the third Iron Rangers goal on their 23rd shot of the contest.

Jackson Nelson faced 43 shots in defeat for Minnesota.
