English River edges Dryden in OT

DRYDEN, Ont. – A Terix Fischer-Kobes tally 4:03 into overtime was the difference as English River Miners edged the Dryden GM Ice Dogs 3-2 in Superior International Junior Hockey League play Tuesday evening at Memorial Arena.

A late first period power play helped Dryden open the scoring as GM Ice Dogs captain Trevor Kavanaugh blasted one past Miners’ starter Michael Lenko.

Mark Ziobro drew the visitors level near the midway point on the second stanza while Ethan Wong put the Miners in front at 13:45 as he converted during a man advantage opportunity.

The score stayed that way until the latter stages of regulation when Kris Hamlin notched the equalizer at 17:10 with his side up a skater.

In OT it was Fischer-Kobes who was the hero for English River as his third goal of the season was the game-winner.

Sam Cirone had two assists for the Miners, including one one the difference maker.

Both starting netminders had solid nights between the pipes with Lenko making 43 saves to record the win.

Landon Pavlisin meanwhile made 41 stops to help his side pick-up a point on the night.
