Dryden rolls over English River in home opener

DRYDEN, Ont. – The Dryden GM Ice Dogs picked up two goals and two assists from Jacen Bracko to help his side roll over the English River Miners 9-2 in their Superior International Junior Hockey League home opener Sunday at Memorial Arena.

Bracko struck quickly in this one putting Dryden in front a mere 74 seconds after the opening face-off.

He then notched another at 8:42 with the GM Ice Dogs shorthanded.

They kept coming and went up 3-0 later in the frame on Luke Bellerose’s first SIJHL tally set-up by Bracko and Eric Stout.

Dryden kept coming and tacked on two more in the early stages of the middle stanza to go up by five as Chris Atanas and Wyatt Lawrence both found the back of the net.

English River did get one back at 11:42 of the session on a Dante Raposo effort only to see the GM Ice Dogs add later tallies from Brandan Jay and Woody Galbraith to make it 7-1 after 40 minutes.

Action in the final frame saw Jay and Josh Sylvain to extend the cushion before the Miners’ Cody Milgate rounded out the scoring with 5:57 to go.

Seven different Dryden skaters had multiple points in the one-sided romp as they improved to 2-0 early in the campaign.

Logan Sawka made 30 stops to record his first league victory for the home side.

English River starter Michael Lenko suffered the loss allowing seven against on 33 attempts for the Miners in two periods of work.

Josh Breznik played the final stanza for the Miners saving eight of 10 in relief as they fell to 0-2.

Next up in league play has Dryden hosting the Fort Frances Lakers Tuesday in a 7:30 p.m. start back at Memorial Arena.
