On a cold Northern Ontario winter night the Dryden Ice Dogs made the trek up the 105 to the Cochenour Arena to take on the Red Lake Miners. Jacob Anthony would start for the Ice Dogs while the Miners would go with Zach Willms in net.
First period action saw the Miners strike first at 3:18. Keegan Tiringer would score his 18th of the season to give the Miners a 1-0 lead. Just 18 seconds later as the Malcom Huemmert would slide one into tie the game at 1. Michael DiLullo’s 31st of the year would put the Miners back ahead at 6:45. After 20 minutes of play the shots are 15-14 in favour of the Ice Dogs but the Miners hold a 2-1 lead.
Despite both teams having a couple power play opportunities neither could muster up any offence in the second period. At 18:52 Bryce Young would notch his 52nd of the year beating Anthony from the slot with a wrist shot. Miners out shoot Dryden 14-8 in the second period and after 40 minutes lead 3-1.
Kyle Uzelman would make it 4-1 Miners with his 17th at 3:26 to open up the third period. Just 20 seconds later Eric Stout would answer right back for the Ice Dogs to make it 4-2. Connor Jacobs would put the Miners back up by 3 at 9:11 with his 7th of the season. Once again the Miners were listening to the PA announcer announce the last goal Dryden scores again 13 seconds later to make it 5-3. A shorthanded goal at16:33 would pull Dryden to within 1 as the Miners lead was cut to 5-4. Shaye Sommerfeld would seal it for the Miners with an empty net goal at 19:38 his 15th of the year.
After setting a record for wins in a season on Saturday against Dryden the Miners set another franchise record for points with 68 after tonights win over the Ice Dogs. Zach Willms picks up the win his 22nd of the year.
The Goldcorp – Red Lake Mines hard to play against hard hat was given to Keegan Tiringer who had a 3 point night.
The yellow “mucker” of the night helmet would be given to Stratton Pickett who had a few blocks in the final minute with Dryden’s net empty.
