Dann Commits to Fitchburg State University
Red Lake, ON – The Red Lake Miners are thrilled to announce that Nathan Dann has committed to play NCAA Division 3 hockey for Fitchburg State University. This exciting opportunity comes after an outstanding season where Nathan led the Miners in goals and points, recording 29 goals and 50 points, placing him 4th in goals for the Superior International Junior Hockey League (SIJHL).
Nathan expressed his enthusiasm for the commitment, stating, “Fitchburg State gave me a great offer and showed a lot of interest in me. They have the four-year program I am most interested in. It’s a great school and a beautiful location. Fitchburg has a long-standing history of hockey. They just competed and won the MASCAC Championship.”
Reflecting on his time with the Miners, Nathan added, “The SI allowed me to develop on my own timeline, which gave me the ability for improvement and confidence year over year. I’d like to credit my time in Red Lake as crucial to my development as a player. I want to thank Coach Stone, Vin Jackson, and Matthew Ray for believing in me along the way and putting me in positions to succeed.”
Nathan also expressed gratitude towards the Red Lake organization: “The Red Lake Miners Coaching Staff and organization gave me the opportunity to improve as a person and player over the past two years. I am very grateful for the time I have spent in Red Lake.” He fondly recalled, “My fondest memories being in Red Lake were spending time ice fishing with teammates who will last a lifetime. I want to thank my Billet, Tina Grondin, for making me feel welcome and a part of the family. I’d also like to thank all the other Red Lake families who have made me feel at home in the community.”
Head Coach and General Manager Lee Stone shared his pride in Nathan’s achievement: “Proud is an understatement. Nathan is very deserving of this commitment, and we’re thrilled that he has accomplished his goal of earning an NCAA D3 commitment. What impresses me most about Nathan is who he is as a person. A very well-liked and respected teammate, Nathan is a consistent presence in our community and is the type of leader that promotes team cohesion. He really helped bring this team together at times.”
Coach Stone went on to praise Nathan’s on-ice skills: “His skill set on the ice is second to none when it comes to scoring goals. He finds open ice, has a scary quick release, and is as accurate as anyone in our league. Having said that, he really took strides this year defensively and became one of our best penalty-killing forwards.”
The Red Lake Miners organization wishes Nathan the best of luck as he embarks on this next chapter with the Fitchburg State University Falcons. His dedication, talent, and character will surely make a lasting impact on and off the ice.
